Ovarian Cyst Treatment Part 2

Surgery

Surgery is split into two types cystectomy and oophorectomy.

Cystectomy

A cystectomy is a medical procedure in which doctors surgically remove a part or all of the bladder, gallbladder or any cyst in the pelvic region, namely ovarian cysts.

Although cystectomies are primarily used for the treatment of bladder cancer, they can also be effective for ovarian cyst treatment. This procedure is highly popular method of ovarian cyst treatment among patients because it leaves the ovaries intact, meaning that a woman doesn’t lose her ability to have children.

Unfortunately, in the case of cancerous ovarian cysts, cystectomy procedures aren’t a treatment option. In the case of ovarian cyst treatment for cancer, part or all of the afflicted ovaries must be removed.

The other drawback of a cystectomy is that they don't address the root cause of an ovarian cyst. The doctors may remove your cyst but there are chances that you cyst will return and you risk going through the surgery procedure again.

Oophorectomy

Also known as ovariotomy or orchiectomy, an oophorectomy is a surgical procedure in which doctors remove one or both of a woman’s ovaries. They’re considered a last-resort for cases for ovarian cyst and ovarian cancer sufferers because of the serious procedures that permanently change a woman i.e. losing the ability to have a baby.

Once a woman’s ovaries have been removed, she no longer has the ability to produce and regulate estrogen levels in her body. As a result, it is normal for doctors to prescribe hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to these women.

HRT isn't for everyone, since it recently came under some scrutiny for its link to the development of breast cancer. Treatments to help patients recover from an oophorectomy vary with individuals.

So both oral contraceptives and surgery will remove the cyst, but they have their side effects and don't always deal with the root of the problem.

1000's of women (including myself) have opted for a more natural form of treatment, BECAUSE:

  • it allows us to void the need to go through a frightening surgery
  • Deals with the ROOT of the problem,
  • its allows us to never worry about suffering the pain of an ovarian cyst EVER again
